Update

Thought I would post a quick update on what we are currently working on in class and out of school, so far we have got a picture for the ancillary task poster and magazine cover which we are yet to put together with the typography which we researched earlier. We have also been working on the production and have finished the logo and the titles which we have been using final cut are finished with the desired font. We choose to use final cut as it is a more sophisticated editing software which allows for greater manipulation of film, proving ideal for out production piece as we feel the use of effects adds to the feel and style of the film.

Production Logo

This is our production logo from last year, we feel it looks effective and we are planning to use it in our current teaser trailer production piece. We like the logo as we think it looks effective and professional, also original as we made it ourselves using Corel Photo Paint.
Below is the same logo, however it is had a high contrast effect applied to it, we are trying to manipulate the logo into more of a horror specific genre as other logos have tried such as in Jurassic Park the Dreamworks company logo which is different to the normal one as it features the little boy fishing getting dragged of the moon, so is manipulated to correlate with genre of film.

After looking at other production logos it is popular to have the logo on a black screen therefore we would like to invert the colours of this high contrast logo.

As it can be seen in the image on the left the original impact productions logo was made by myself on Corel photo paint which is a sophisticated photo editing software, which allows for great manipulation of images and a large range of tools which proved helpful in the creation of our logo.

Taglines

Existing tag lines:
"whats a little murder between friends?" Shallow Grave
"before you die you see.. The Ring" The Ring
"you have been warned" The Omen
"fear moves in" The Uninvited
"experience fear" Rec
"who will survive and what will be left of them?" Texas Chainsaw Massacre
"possession knows no bounds" An American Haunting
"the girl next door isn't there anymore" The Cellar Door
"you won't believe how it ends" Saw V
"how much blood would you shed to stay alive?" Saw
"the ultimate in alien terror" The Thing

The popular theme for the tagline is to focus on the fear that the film is supposed to make the audience feel, also this doesnt give anything away about the plotline which leaves the audience in suspense.

Poster Research

After looking at horror movie posters it is obvious that it is the norm for the majority of the poster to be black with few other colours, often white or red. The imagery must be intriguing and distorted to make you want to find out more about the film.
Film posters in general are designed to advertise the film, therefore persuading the public that they want to pay to watch the film. The poster includes the logo of the film, a persuasive tagline, possible names of actors or directors and release date. The image on the poster has to portray the theme of the film or a particular scene.
Our idea for the movie poster is to use layers of photography with different elements of the plot and images from the trailer. The background will be black and we will experiment with different colour schemes. We want the title to be distorted but obviously it still needs to be legible.

Poster Research

A typical film magazine front cover always has a person on the front, almost always the main character of the film, in character and often with props. As our trailer doesn't introduce a main character fully, we want the front cover of the magazine to only suggest a main character. Our initial idea is to take a photograph of a girl concealed mostly by dark make-up and hair with very low lighting so only some features are seen, inspired by the use of chiaroscuro and shadows in film noir, where the unknown makes the audience intrigued.

Update

Currently we are in the process of completing our ancillary tasks to complete a poster for the film and also a magazine cover, we have looked at various typography for both poster and magazine cover. Whilst we are going to conduct audience research into the name of our film and also the typography that we will use.
